A LITTLE BIT ABOUT MY ADDICTION
The idea of making this blog came to me because today I wanted to make a tutorial/experiment about making a home theater with pro audio and by also using an home AV receiver. Before I start I want to take the liberty tell a little bit about myself. Since a young age ( I hold my dad responsible) I’ve had a great fascination with what I considered good sound. My dad would keep updating our home with the great stereos or home theater systems, its something he loved and still does. My father loves all types of music, his favorite though is classical music, kind of boring, you would think, I would seat with him and the way he would explained to me why he liked this kind of music would make me appreciate music and sound. He would tell me to pay attention to the changes in sound and to distinguish the different instruments and how amazing was that so many Are playing different notes and became one melody. Back then my dream was to have a huge room to make it a theater. The years past by and I had great (cheap) sound systems. The appearance of my stereos were horrible, cables everywhere ripped speakers, I was using old receivers that either the right or the left channel was blown, so I would have multiple receivers to make it work. Don’t get me wrong I still honestly think that that was my best home stereo i’ve had so far I sounded incredible! I was married then, so I had to get rid of it so the living room looked presentable and purchased the Bose Acoustimass witch sound good but not as good.
Years went by when Guitar Center came to town, I’ve never heard of this guitar store so I was curious to see how come a guitar store was so big, (I mean how many guitars can they sell) so I decided to check it out. To my big surprise they sell pro audio, I felt in heaven! I started with one QSC amplifier and two Peavey speakers PV215, that was it. My plan was to use my old Sony receiver to use it as a source, well that did not worked I could not understand why, it did not sound good and the gain knots on the QSC were all the way up and was barely getting any sound out. I saved some money and as soon as I was able to afford I went back to Guitar Center Crown Amp and two PV118 and a mixer. So now I had proper sound coming out of my amps but I was not happy of how it sound. So it was time to save some money again and purchased a DBX EQ, DBX Crossover and a sound maximizer, now a had a pretty nice sound.
I now have a pretty cool equipment setup, although I was still obsessed in having more, more power and/or more speakers, to have a theater on my backyard, I know it sound crazy but that’s what I wanted. Years went by and got the guts to purchase another pair of QSC K12”s, I really did not thought about until I was home and realize that I was not going to be happy until I had the QSC KW181 sub woofer and a new EQ and Crossover. I did a little bit of research and discovered the DBX Drive Rack PA2, that would solve the issue of having different components in to just one device, so I got that as well. Now I had two problems, I know have two equipment’s and in reality nowhere to use them, I have neighbors. It’s kind of like having a Ferrari and not able to drive it to what is made for.
Now with two equipments (knowing I can’t really used them) I still did not had enough to make a 5.1 theater like in my backyard. Note: you probably know that a home theater it usually comes with 5.1 surround sound. Which means that you have 5 discrete channels of audio, (main right and Left speaker, Center speaker, rear right and left speaker and the .1 refers to the subwoofer) being that said I need another pair. Well at least that was my excuse… wink wink.
Another couple of years went by and decide that it was time to get another two QSC K10.2 and another KW181 just in case I needed it and of course another DBX drive Rack PA2 again just in case.
In conclusion….. there is no conclusion, because I have come to realize that I am a sound junkie and all want to continue to learn and make it sound better.
